Storm Drain: Turning Kyogre's Best Move Into Setup

Ability Mechanics

Storm Drain redirects all Water-type moves targeting any Pokémon to Gastrodon in doubles, and grants +1 Special Attack when hit by a Water move. Kyogre's Origin Pulse — the most powerful spread move in Regulation I — becomes free +1 SpAtk setup rather than damage.

Water/Ground typing makes Gastrodon fully immune to Electric. Ground overrides Water's Electric 2× weakness, meaning Miraidon, Regieleki, and Pincurchin-based Electric Terrain teams deal zero damage with their primary tools. This combination makes Gastrodon one of the most efficient counters to two dominant Regulation I archetypes.
