Frequently Asked Questions

How do I import a Pokémon Showdown team?

Click the purple "Import from Showdown" button in the right panel. Paste your Showdown team export text (up to 6 Pokémon) and click Import Team. The builder automatically parses each Pokémon's name, Tera Type, Speed EVs, nature, held item, and moves. Common form variants — Calyrex-Shadow, Zacian-Crowned, Flutter Mane, Iron Hands, Urshifu-Single-Strike, and 15+ others — are recognized automatically. After import, the weakness matrix and speed tier analysis update with your team's exact stats.

How does Tera type affect a Pokémon's weaknesses in VGC?

Terastallization changes a Pokémon's defensive typing to a single Tera type, replacing all original types. Use the "Tera" selector in each slot to set a Tera type — the weakness matrix recalculates instantly. For example, a Fire-type with Tera Water loses its 4× Rock weakness and becomes 2× weak to Electric and Grass instead. The "T" badge in the column header shows active Tera slots. Tera type settings are preserved when saving a team to local storage.

What are the critical speed tiers in VGC Regulation I?

Key Speed benchmarks at Level 50 (252 EVs, +Speed nature, 31 IVs): Calyrex-Shadow 222, Zacian-Crowned 220, Iron Bundle 206, Flutter Mane and Miraidon 205, Urshifu 163, Arcanine 161, Kyogre and Groudon 156, Incineroar 123, Calyrex-Ice and Iron Hands 112, Hatterene 89. Speed Creep — investing +4 EVs above a benchmark max — is the standard technique to guarantee outspeeding the same-base-Speed tier. The Speed Order tab displays your team against these meta references.

How does the VGC Team Builder calculate Speed stats at Level 50?

Speed is calculated using the Generation 9 Level 50 formula: floor((floor((2 × base + 31 + floor(EV÷4)) × 50÷100) + 5) × nature multiplier). When importing from Pokémon Showdown, Speed EVs and nature are parsed directly from the team text for the exact stat your Pokémon will have in a VGC match. Without import, Speed EVs default to 0 with neutral nature. The Speed Order tab shows each member's calculated stat, base Speed, invested EVs, and nature.

What does the Team Health Score measure?

The Team Health Score (0–100) measures structural balance. It deducts 10 points per critical weakness — 3 or more team members weak to the same type, or any 4× weakness — and 5 points per type with no STAB super-effective coverage. A full team of 6 adds 5 bonus points. A score of 70+ indicates solid balance; below 40 typically signals a concentrated weakness cluster or coverage gap that opponents can exploit reliably.
